HOW OUR COVERAGE GUIDELINES WERE DEVELOPED

CHA Health has developed a Technology Assessment process to assist with determinations regarding medical practice and coverage policies for Plan members. Technologies include medical and surgical procedures, health care services, devices and pharmaceutical treatments. The Research and Documentation Specialist of the Medical Management department researches current published medical evidence and technology assessment reports from independent external entities and drafts a Coverage Guideline based on the findings. CHA Health subscribes to the Hayes Medical Technology Directory™, which includes nearly 500 evidence-based reports assessing new and emerging technologies. In addition to review by the Chief Health Services Officer and Plan Medical Director, CHA Health elicits comments from actively practicing like-specialty providers. The criteria are then submitted to the CHA Peer Review/Utilization Management (PR/UM) Committee which reviews and approves or adopts all criteria utilized by CHA Health. The PR/UM Committee is a standing committee of the Medical Quality Council and is comprised of the Chief Health Services Officer and at least four (4) actively practicing physicians who represent primary care and specialty areas of medical practice.

Diabetes - Urine Test
A person with diabetes can develop diabetic nephropathy and not know it. The albumin or protein level urine test is a better indicator of risk for nephropathy.
