CHA Ratings-HEDIS Ratings

Measuring the quality of your care.

At CHA Health, we believe that continuously improving the quality of your health plan is important. That's why CHA Health participates in a unique program designed to continuously improve the quality of your health care. HEDISâ (Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set) is one of the ways we accomplish that goal.

HEDIS is a set of standardized performance measures designed to give purchasers and consumer's information to reliably compare the performance of managed care organizations (MCO). It is a product developed by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to measuring the quality of America's health care. The performance measures in HEDIS relate to many significant public health issues such as cancer screening, heart disease, prenatal and post-partum care, asthma, and diabetes. HEDIS provides the most complete view of MCO quality available. HEDIS gives purchasers and consumers an unprecedented ability to evaluate the quality of MCOs along several dimensions.

HEDIS information also helps health plans, like CHA Health, target their improvement efforts. For example, if the rates show that not enough women are getting mammograms, managed care organizations can work with physicians and members to ensure women get the screening they need.

In 2001, CHA Health focused on sending reminders to targeted members regarding the importance of breast cancer and cervical cancer screenings for women and retinal eye exams for people with diabetes. In addition, Healthy Heart, our innovative cardiovascular program, identified at-risk members for early detection and improved treatment of cardiovascular disease. These efforts were repeated in early fall of 2002.

In 2002, we continued toward our goal of improving the lives of our members. CHA Health launched Health Airways, a program that seeks to improve the health and life of those with chronic respiratory disease, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In addition to continuing our earlier efforts, we will also help diabetics by encouraging regular blood glucose and kidney disease screenings.

CHA Health continues its aggressive efforts to improve the rate of health screenings of its members into 2003. CHA will be sending out reminders to targeted members regarding the importance of screenings, childhood immunizations, well child visits and other important interventions designed to continuously improve the quality of your health care. As the results in the chart below show, CHA Health has made significant clinical improvements over the past few years.
