HIPAA Readiness
CHA Health is working diligently to insure that our policies, processes and systems are HIPAA compliant. Compliance standards for the Privacy Rule which were enacted April 14, 2003, were satisfied by CHA Health. As the October 16, 2003 deadline approaches for the Standard Transactions and Code Sets Rule CHA Health will be ready. We will be able to accept HIPAA-compliant claims on or before October 16, 2003. Contingency plans are in place in the event that we receive claims after the deadline that are not HIPAA-compliant. We do not recommend any current EDI submitter revert to paper claims.

CHA Health is an active member of the HIPAA Action workgroup of Kentucky (HAWK). HAWK is a state-wide workgroup created to collaborate on best practices for HIPAA Compliance. Through this collective effort the workgroup has developed an implementation guide available to all providers submitting Professional Claims - 837P. This guide provides a framework for transaction segments and elements for several payers serving the Commonwealth of Kentucky, including CHA Health. Please click here to view and print a copy of the HAWK implementation guide.

Please note: CHA Health cannot guarantee the HAWK implementation guide represents the most current HIPAA requirements of any payer other than CHA Health. CHA Health encourages checking with the other payers to determine their HIPAA submission requirements.

Health Claims for Herbal Products Over the Internet
Since the inception of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) in 1984, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has only been able to play a limited role in the regulation of dietary and health supplements. Due to this lack of supervision, many dietary and health supplements are mislabeled with unsubstantiated health claims and inaccurate ingredient lists.
